Launched 3 months ago, Kan Kan Film Ventures, a digital company, is looking for films, documentaries, music videos from independent and motivated short film and documentary makers in North America.

KAN KAN Film Ventures aims to be the world’s leading mobile video content provider (short-form) - distributing non-feature video content namely short films and webisodes, documentaries, music videos and games. They aim to put together the largest, most diverse collection of “short-form” entertainment content in the next three to five years. They will entertain its audiences on the go and on-demand; via tablets, smart phones and other hand held devices.

Says Sudarshan Narayan, Co Founder of Kan Kan, “When we looked at starting a media company, we quickly realized that the future is digitally rosy. And when we looked at how online viewing of entertainment content is trending, it is clear that it will overtake physical renting of movies or video entertainment shortly. The other phenomenon we noticed worldwide, at least in developed markets, was that people were watching videos outside of their living rooms and on other ‘screens’. They also wanted to watch what they want, when they want and where they want.”

NJISACF (www.NJISACF.org) director, Sakti Sengupta, says,Our film festival has emerged as one of the prime festivals to showcase South Asian Talent in the US. We have been trying to give the independent makers from South Asia the exposure in the developed market like the US. This common thread of thought and goal that brought the two companies together, for the benefit of film makers from South Asia. Kan Kan Film Ventures and NJISACF will collaborate to bring some of the most creative short film works to the fore.”

Rima Amarapurkar, Co Founder and Creative Head of Kan Kan feels that the internet-mobile media offers a great opportunity for young independent film makers to not only gain worldwide reach in a very personalized way but also monetize their creativity. She says, “Till now, the most a short film maker could expect was a screening & an award at a film festival. But now…”

Kan Kan’s third Co Founder, Sanjay Sankla says, “There is so much potential for good films from anywhere to make it big thanks to internet, 4G, social media phenomenon, smart phones & the phenomenal tablets – making it highly suitable for ‘short’ video entertainment – on the move. We, at Kan Kan, want to create a content platform that will deliver great short film content to film lovers all over the world, that will offer film makers the opportunity to discover and build global fan following and monetize their work too.”

KAN KAN has already started on its path to support independent short film making by sponsoring eminent film festivals like the 48 HR Film Project Delhi and Mumbai International Short Film Festival. It will also be supporting or sponsoring festivals like IFFI Goa, Jaipur International Film Festival this year.

Kan Kan will carefully short list films that are received via its multiple sourcing activities and aim to get them screened at NJISACF while award winning films at NJISACF will get the opportunity to use Kan Kan’s platform and multiple services for commercial success.

This year NJISACF is being held at the Big Cinemas in Edison, New Jersey, from October 5 to 7. Their website is www.NJISACF.org.

Sudarshan Narayan, Business Head, KAN KAN Film Ventures will be present at the festival this year to meet the short filmmakers.
